Christina Owens, LCSW

Psychotherapy

I provide individual therapy and parent/family consultations. I enjoy and have been trained to work with children, adolescents, and adults. I take a client-centered, strengths-based approach to therapy and believe that you are the expert on your own life. I believe that you already have all the tools you need within you to be successful and achieve your goals. I promise to create an atmosphere in which you can communicate your feelings with the certainty that you are being understood. By utilizing your strengths, we will move forward towards healing and growth.

I am integrative and holistic in my psychotherapy and utilize a number of modalities and techniques. I have been trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and will often utilize the mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance skills that it offers. I also draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and challenge unhealthy thought patterns and behaviors to create lasting change. In working with children, I love to utilize fun, interactive, play-focused interventions.

Parent/Family Consultations

If you do not know what to do or where to begin, you are not alone. Coping with challenging behaviors and emotions are not easy for the parent nor the child, but there is hope; no matter the cause of the behavior. Parents play a crucial role in their child’s treatment and when working with a child or adolescent, I always incorporate family consultations. We will work together to learn how to model skills for your child, how to create a validating environment and how to help your child practice the skills they are learning in therapy.

Together we can work to:

  • Learn coping skills.
  • Identify unhealthy thought patterns and behaviors.
  • Improve interpersonal relationships with loved ones.
  • Increase self-esteem through self-compassion.
  • Improve emotional regulation.
  • Decrease quality-of-life interfering behaviors.

These are just a few of the ways therapy can help. I am honored to facilitate exploration of the ways that therapy can best serve your unique needs.

Initial appointments are about 75-90 minutes in length. The initial appointment will consist of getting to know each other, listening to your concerns and history, and learning about your goals for therapy. There will be space for you to ask any questions you have to ensure we are a good fit, and we will begin to develop our treatment plan. Sessions after the initial appointment are 50 minutes and usually occur on a weekly basis to start. We will customize our treatment plan and frequency of visits based on your needs and goals.
